THE MAKER
THE MAKER
From Tree To Sea is the creative expression of Lauren Strybos, a Chinese-Jamaican ceramicist and former wildlife biologist from Ontario. With a passion for the outdoors & environmental conservation, along with a love of playing with clay since childhood, Lauren creates one of a kind ceramics that have a playful vibe to them. Her travels have inspired much of her work, with an emphasis on tones, textures and shapes found in native flora + fauna, as well as the little joys of everyday life.
After re-rooting in Calgary, Alberta, Lauren now works out of Nvrlnd. studios, an artist run collective in Ramsay.
Her resident studio assistant, Remy (aka Remy Moo Moo, Chickie Nuggie, Remster Bemster) oversees all underglaze painting on the couch or at home handbuilding.
THE WORK
THE WORK
From Tree To Sea ceramics are made in small batches using primarily stoneware & porcelain. Pieces often feature happy designs & coloured glazes plus a mix of smooth, wheel thrown silhouettes and organically hand-built vessels.
✶ FUN FACT: the classic FTTS tiger mugs were first created in 2021 to celebrate the Year of the Tiger!
